On June 9, Gov. Gavin Newsom and AG Rob Bonta filed a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against Trump’s deployment, calling it an “unlawful federal occupation.”

No Invasion. No Rebellion. No Breakdown. Trump cited 10 U.S.C. § 12406—meant for emergencies like insurrection—to override Newsom’s control of the state National Guard. But LA had functioning police and no rebellion.
Violation of Posse Comitatus. The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits the use of federal troops for civilian law enforcement. Marines on LA streets? Unconstitutional.
Tenth Amendment breach. States control their militias unless narrowly defined federal emergencies apply. Newsom never consented. Trump didn’t even notify him in advance.

So, Trump sent 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to LA without the state’s request. The official story: riots. The reality? Protests were peaceful, anti-Trump protests that Trump labelled as dangerous insurrectionist protests amidst the backdrop of ICE raids to justify beating the shit out of anti-Trump protestors. This had nothing to do with dangerous illegals and migrant gangs.
“What Trump Sent vs. What California Faced” Troops outnumbered rioters. Marines guarded buildings while local LAPD managed crowds. Even LAPD leadership pushed back on the need.
