But enough of you saw Trump traipsing around calling Canada the 51st State. Trump is probably the ONLY reason the Conservative Party 20+ point lead was obliterated. I remember the size of it because I was thinking - "NOOOOOOO!!!! Not ANOTHER nation going down this rabbit hole!"

I was reading posts by Canadians on your election night on social media. I noticed a substantial number of posts about the massive far-right "misinformation" that was "everywhere".
Uh-huh!!! Yup!!! That's what I've been seeing in massive doses since the 2016 election. Get used to it because they are just getting started. With time, they can get a certain percentage of people to believe just about ANYTHING. I've seen so many normal people morph into MAGA zombies that it's terrifying . You are in for the same.
People coming from the US and sharing what happened in our country might actually help build a counter-balance to the MAGA misinformation on steroids. A critical mass of "refugees" might actually be the best publicity against fascism imaginable.
Economic, political, industrial, and military independence is not going to be cheap, but if Canada leads the way and makes the investments, the payoff will be decades of stable, North American (Canadian-Only) resources for trade and defense partners around the world.
It is upsetting - and scary - to imagine Canada to my north, literally as the bird flys less than **30** miles from my house but still at least 3 hrs or 5.5 hrs away by car depending on the road and destination, being an adversary after my 5-plus decades on this earth. But I see no other alternative. Canada has the resources, and will find the money to build a thriving sovereign country without the US. It’s the only path that protects Canadians from what may be decades of a different United States than we’ve had for several centuries now. Sad.
Please encourage PM Carney to press on with his current plan for dealing with Trump. Canada, the EU and what's left of the free world and our last hope for recovering our democracy, and if we have to be destroyed financially to do that, so be it. Just be sure to get the billionaires too.
