So the defense of democracy no longer involves the nation that dreamed up the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Of course.

Well, the United States might’ve dreamed up the declaration of independence and the constitution but they didn’t dream up democracy. That would have been the 5th century BC Athenian Greeks.

And from my 70 years of being a political geek, I’m pretty sure that the USA has never really HAD a true democratic country. They just talk a good line but in actuality the US government going back to their origins have ALWAYS disenfranchised some or many of their own citizens from having g a voice in their governance.

That’s true, but as Sir Winston Churchill tartly observed, “Democracy is the worst political system in the world…except for all the other systems.”

The Founding Fathers never envisioned such things as large corporations (despite the Hudson’s Bay Company and East India Company), weapons of mass destruction, organized crime, drug cartels, cyberspace, the military-industrial complex, mammoth intelligence and police agencies, lobby groups, and mass media.

In 1900, the US Patent Office considered shutting down, as one of its bosses suggested that there were no more inventions left to discover.

In 1989, when the Berlin Wall came down, historians, TV commentators, and other motormouths suggested that “history was over,” and all that was left was managing a peaceful planet.

Even the famous “psychics,” like the ones Harry Houdini and James Randi exposed, admitted they were frauds.

Yet oddly enough, all the other Democratic countries that are still democracies have also been dealing with giant corporations, weapons of mass destruction, organized crime, drug cartels, American militarism and jingoism, American influenced movies, TV shows, Music, social media and all the other things you mentioned and they have NOT transformed into Fascist dictatorships, have they? Perhaps it’s because they all had Russia as a great example of dictatorships in action and made sure their citizens were politically educated, learned critical thinking skills and understood the importance of their political franchise. Something the USA has done the exact opposite of, for the last 40 years.

Understand this: Trump uber alles. His personal world vision is what 70 million Americans voted for. Japan and Canada are acting wisely.

Nor should you be! As an American I am so proud of Canada. When our orange buffoon insulted Canada BEFORE trying to negotiate with them, Canadians banded together & elected a Prime Minister who was intelligent, educated, economically knowledgeable & savvy who has lead Canada in forming strategic defense & trading partnerships. In like the idiot in the White House, he truly understands the ‘art of the deal.’

Just another way America is losing. Can’t do anything until this traitor and regime have been overturned. Can’t wait for that, even tho the rest of us suffer for it.

What nation will ever again trust the U.S. after 2 terms of Trump psychosis? Irrationity and venality seems baked into the nation.
