Sure, Ottawa isn't rattling cages.

Yes, Ottawa is more than happy Canadians are boycotting travel to the US.

However, they conveniently have yet to mention that a Montreal based company ( GuardaWorld) is providing the security and guards for Alligator Alcatraz.

Why? Why is no one mentioning this?

I'm confused!

Agreed!! GardaWorld's little $8M security contract for Alligator Auschwitz seemingly flying under the radar is blowing my mind

I agree. This is the first I have heard of this as a Floridian. I am confused. Is this a private company

From what I can find, both the parent company and US arm are privately owned. US subsidiary is United American Security LLC, dba GardaWorld

I have seen GARDA trucks that are like BRINKS armored trucks. they transfer money for businesses. There was a problem with them a few years back in Florida. They had their license pulled. HAe not seen the trucks since. SO all I can assume is that they are not in another business that consider shady at best.

Gestapo (ICE): Judge, Jury, Jailer. Every prisoner yields financial rewards for those at the top down to the lowest tier cosplaying bounty hunters managing the American concentration camp twilight zone. Is Trump holding Canadians hostage as bargaining chips for negotiations, in a moved learned from Putin?

Making America a pariah state is certainly not "great". There are other, more suitable adjectives.

I am so sorry, and aplogize on behalf of what used to be my country. Ottawa needs to be more proactive, it sounds like. We all need to follow E Jean Carroll’s example. If an 81 year old woman can stand up to Trump and WIN, why are our politians so spineless?

Why ISN'T Ottawa rattling cages? Where's PM Carney? He's spoken out on everything else wrong with the orange sadist's destruction of our country. Why not about this?

This is an abomination from start to finish. And having GuardaWorld involved is another abomination. Doesn’t ANYone give a damn any more? I am so incensed and β€˜those in charge’ don’t give a damn that I, as an individual, DO give a damn β€” and can’t influence anyone or anything. Powerless. Thank you for letting me rant.

In 2022, the Quebec government invested $300 million into GardaWorld through Investissement QuΓ©bec, buying preferred shares under market conditions.

I don’t believe anyone should be incarcerated for no reason or for doing business without a proper visa in the US. I also think even though this woman showed poor judgement, the government should be doing more than monitoring her to get her home.

One thing about the US is even though we are called the United States each state has their own laws, crazy as that might sound. This unfortunate woman was in FL when this domestic abuse occurred. Had it happened in my state, which is a sanctuary one, the local police would have responded. It’s possible one or both parties would have been arrested but it’s highly unlikely ICE would have been involved. She would probably have bonded out the next day since no one was actually injured. FL is a whole other story. It’s not clear to me if Paula had a valid Visa or was working on obtaining one. If she didn’t have a valid one or none at all in FL they would call in ICE, especially given the current climate we’re existing in. If Paula entered the country with no Visa at all that would be a problem even in my own state. Now is not the time to come to the US at all. It’s not the time to overstay a Visa, which many people do. If a person does decide to enter the US it is imperative they have a valid Visa. If not it’s a recipe for disaster. I can’t understand why the Canadian government isn’t doing more to help her. Holy hell should be raised by Canadian citizens with their own government. I hope the family has hired an attorney and if not the ACLU or a good US immigration attorney their best bet.

Every country who has had their citizens locked up by ICE have told them the same things, they cannot help them, the Trump administration refuses to even listen to their inquiries and those citizens like ours in Canada have been warned that it IS NOT SAFE TO TRAVEL TO THE USA. Where is the personal responsibility here? Surely after multiple warnings that the USA is no longer a safe country to travel to but you CHOOSE to travel there anyways and got picked up by ICE, why should the government of Canada be responsible for rescuing IDIOTS using our tax payer dollars who ignored all the warnings!

Please give us more detail why the Canadian government is letting the US get away with kidnapping and tormenting Canadian citizens!

Expand full comment
Alexis's avatar

Canada isn’t letting the US get away with anything. The US has basically said to all the countries out there whose citizens they have locked up that they can’t give them back. And that would be because ice doesn’t keep records that are clear enough as to who they’ve picked up where they took them to where they then took them to again and again and again until they all get lost in the system and then nobody can find out where they are. Do none of you actually read the newspapers where the senators and representatives in the United States can’t find some of their own constituents, even though those ice prisons are in their ridings?

If American senators and representatives and other people in authority, can’t find Americans that have been locked up by ice what makes any of you think they’re gonna spend any time looking for Canadians and they certainly aren’t going to spend any time helping Canada find them because more and more Americans are believing the BS that’s being put out by the MAGA crowd and the GOP that Canada is THE biggest enemy of the USA!
