I think Carney will use Hoekstra to his advantage. He will let Hoekstra dig himself in with Maple MAGA, then turn that on its head and use it to corner Hoekstra. He knows like the rest of us that Hoekstra is a divisive man who was put in Canada to undermine our sovereignty. Carney is playing the long game, and he will show his hand, when it is most advantageous to do so!

Your comment gives me hope right now, when I need it most, One Canadian's Perspective. Hoekstra is a maggot & it surprises me not at all that he's in the thick of it. Even though traitor Danielle Smith, whom I'd like to see be made accountable for her role in this, I wonder if you think this really started to take firm roots during the convoy or is it my imagination?

One Canadians Perspective's avatar

I remember when Trudeau won the second time some of my maritime friends in Alberta started talking about separation. The trucker occupation helped push it along as did Pierre Poilievre and Danielle Smith. This last election a lot of my maritime friends in Alberta blocked me because I am a staunch supporter of Carney, so I don't get to hear their whining any more. The one thing I do gather is that separatists really don't understand the responsibilities of government at the provincial and federal levels and that is the majority of their problem. I do believe everything will be fine in Alberta. I have no doubt in my mind that there are more than twice as many loyal Canadian Albertans are there are the haters. I also have a feeling this will all come to a head long before any referendum takes place if they can even get the required signatures!

Sheryl Campbell's avatar

And of course, there was a slew of deep right-wing money that financed the traitorous ‘convoy’.

One Canadians Perspective's avatar

American right wing money. The truckers are also traitors. I am not a fan! I’m retired military, Canada is everything to me. Anyone wanting to destroy her has an instant enemy in me.

Canada is an amazing country and for this US citizen, an attack on Canada is an attack on me, no matter what form the attack takes. I don't think I'm unique there.

One Canadians Perspective's avatar

Thank you for that! 🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸

Agreed 100 per cent!!

Catherine's Nook's avatar

I'm so very sorry. I have many military friends and former colleagues who, like you, are true heroes whom we respect and appreciate for having honorably served in the military with courage and conviction. I've a few who came home with unseen wounds. You all deserve so much better than these buggers.

One Canadians Perspective's avatar

Thank you. I lost friends in Afghanistan. They were the best of us and they gave all for Canada.

Catherine's Nook's avatar

Fingers crossed that hope, common sense and patriotism will prevail. The various Indigenous communities are being very vocal in their objection to what Smith & her separatists are trying to do. I was royally pissed off that they dared go to Washington at least three times asking (not being offered as they state) a $500B Line of Credit.

One Canadians Perspective's avatar

Same here. Jeff Rath and his group are the lowest of the low!

Ellen Franzen's avatar

No kidding! I've got news for him, though. The idea that the Pacific Northwest (WA and OR) would allow an oil pipeline to run through their states is a NO GO. I do think WA might let Alberta have Hanford and its nuclear power plant, though. My brother-in-law was a contract lawyer who worked for Bechtel all his life, usually handling supplier contracts for nuclear power plants all over the world. He died of leukemia last year, probably developed because of all those years working around nuclear power plants. Finally, I'd like to say, California, the fourth largest economy in the world, would be happy to join Canada in exchange for Alberta going to the US, and I think WA and OR would be happy to join us too. Perhaps Alberta would like to consider shipping its grain and oil through Alaska and Mexico, since I'm pretty sure the Pacific Coast states won't want to help them out.

One Canadians Perspective's avatar

I would love to see the west coast from Mexico to Alaska one country! We could call it Paradise! 😍

dfieldman's avatar

Where's the money? In whose bank account?

One Canadians Perspective's avatar

I don't know if they actually have received any money yet. I think these little meetings in DC are just begging/planning sessions!

Catherine's Nook's avatar

They've not received it as yet. I think they're still working on it and perhaps will only see it after the deal (whatever that looks like or is supposed to look like) is made & signed on the dotted line. These Cdn separatists are fools of the highest order if they think the US will honor any alleged deal. These traitors will be used and then thrown away like yesterday's garbage. But, you can't fix stupid.

Is Lake Victoria the deepest....lake in Canada??

Courtney 🇨🇦's avatar

Agreed. It's been months now and so many ways Carney could justify booting him out. I assume he realized out of the gate that removing Hoekstra wouldn't be worth the temper tantrum it would cause, especially when the replacement might be worse. Might as well wait it out.

Kathy Davidson's avatar

I hope so. Because Hoekstra is an absolute ass!

Kay Romeo's avatar

Can’t you kick him out and suspend his credentials?

Louise's avatar

I admit that I'm not familiar with what's going on with the Separatists in Alberta but I'd like to know lots more. Sources, anyone? It sounds to me like Canada would be amply justified in giving Hoekstra his walking papers. Politely, of course. Or not. Imagine anyone anywhere willingly joining with Trump.

I have been thinking for a little while now that Minnesota should start taking secession seriously. Not that it will happen, but fuck, let's pull all the levers we can think of.

Maybe USA and Canada can make a swap - Minnesota in exchange for Alberta. 😉

BJ Zamora's avatar

That’s what I would do.

Kathy Hughes's avatar

I suppose Hoekstra may become persona non grata if he pushes even further. I’d personally love to see it!

Send him home. Yesterday.

This needs to be cleaned up Pronto! Carney needs to put the elbow to Hoekstra face, and remove him from the country as a national security threat! He and MAGA are a national security threat, to both nations.

Brad Rhees's avatar

Should have happened when Hoekstra was first made Ambassador and uttered his first words. You knew he was going to be trouble from that point on.

His behavior in the Netherlands should have been a warning of what was coming.

PM Carney should be coming down on these people HARD NOW. Charge them. Convict them as if in war - because we are!! If you look at the legal definition of Treason or High Treason, I think it’s clear they fit this absolutely (although definitely differing opinions). If he doesn’t we will be faced with them only worsening. Along with all the other threats and bullying. A must - if he doesn’t act now, who else can?? Contact our PM everyone!

Trump likes Poilievre

Immigration, crime, rolling back DEI among top Conservative priorities

Delegates at the Conservative Party's national convention in Calgary voted on a range of political priorities this weekend, from immigration and bail reform to rolling back diversity initiatives.

Separatist questions: USA? He said a Conservative government would look to unite and "afford you the hopeful future that you have earned." Former Conservative campaign manager Jenni Byrne said the party has to do more to connect U.S. relations to affordability issues to gain momentum.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith did not address separatism directly in her speech on Saturday. Smith has said she doesn’t want to "demonize" any Albertan who has lost faith in Canada. A survey taken last spring for CBC Calgary suggested that 49 per cent of respondents in Alberta who identified as Conservative voters say they’d vote "yes" for Alberta to leave Canada, while 45 per cent would vote no. That split is going to provide a challenge for Smith and the Conservatives moving forward.

Minnetoba? Some Minnesotans want to join Canada as tensions flare with the Trump administration.

But really nothing will happen, Canada is a safe place, health care for all freedom it is the best!

Walter Bruno's avatar

Trump likes Poilievre's Conservatives only since he knew they would RUN a VASSAL state for the USA. Literally. Trump himself used the term. Not just in oil & gas -- in SOCIAL VALUES.

(yes, that also applies to the critically strategic Arctic.. and new waterways up there.)

That's the Project 2025 game plan for Canada... and most sovereign states in the Americas.

The Trump trope about 'Canada is ripping us off' is just a MotherHouse version of the old Alberta-populist trope 'Quebec rips us off via Ottawa'.

And that trope began as an anti-French-Canadian bias, way back in 1910. Today, it's called the Laurentian Elite by the federal conservative think-tanks. Laurentian= St Lawrence Valley.

In short, a Conservative takeover ... which was eagerly anticipated in Canadian Big Business just last year, in their higher offices... was part of destroying the founding conventions of Canada, 1867.

Muskrat’s grandfather Joshua Haldeman belonged to the Alberta Social Credit Party, which was less than surprising to learn.

Catherine's Nook's avatar

I'd like nothing more than to see traitor Danielle Smith expelled permanently from Canada, along with her separatist pals. I also want to see the American dark money & people who have financed and come to Canada pushing their agenda to divide us and help the traitor in chief in the US get his wish to 'own' Canada. OUST every last one of them. SMITH ETAL: GET OUT & DO NOT EVER RETURN.

Wendy Shelley's avatar

Get rid of him. Canada certainly doesn’t need this warmonger. Actually, we don’t either but I don’t know what else to do with him! Hmmmm … maybe he could be parachuted over certain Arctic areas? I hope PM Carney has something in mind for him; it will be well deserved!

Ellen Franzen's avatar

Possibly the center of Greenland in a swimsuit in midwinter with no supplies. Global warming is here and he can float around the island (in it).
