When peaceful protest becomes impossible… something else becomes inevitable

kdsherpa's avatar

Democracy is dying rapidly in the United States. Prepare to be arrested and tortured -- or flee. (Our house goes on the market today. We've lived in this house for 35 years. We are freeing up our assets, in case we, too, find it necessary to leave our country.)

How sad, I’m so sorry. 😞

She is one of the worst human beings alive. Stupid beyond belief, cruel and a completely useless representative.

I'm somewhat surprised that the security guards, the body guards, even the police that are hired, don't turn against the GOP politicians who are ruining the economy, their retirement, their healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc... Don't they have grandparents, parents, and children who all depend on these things? They can't all be millionaires. I'd like to see them defend the Protestors.

Twyla 🇨🇦's avatar

The police have traditionally been supportive of authoritarianism. It's a paramilitary organization where they're taught to see EVERYONE as a potential threat.

Plus they're likely earning double-time pay to tase protesters and toss them out.

Police have been operating with impunity for years against parts of society, it's not new. We're just unaccustomed to seeing how they treat people.

The cheering crowd are the folks who faithfully watch Fox News. They've been programmed to believe that all of their grievances are caused by liberals, and that only conservatives are entitled to constitutional rights.

Until their parents or grandparents stop receiving social security payments, they won't (likely can't) believe that the orange messiah is doing anything wrong.

Short answer: it's a cult.

LindyLoo's avatar

It's a scary mindless cult!

Wendymae's avatar

It's all about the hate. It's more important than any of those things you mentioned, and the reason many became cops in the first place.

Diane McConnell's avatar

Holy hell! I wonder how many of them will sue. I would.

Victoria Hanks's avatar

Maybe the faithful who were cheering, were paid to be there. Why the hell would any normal person be ok with this whole scene? Are all MAGA really that stupid? Stupid question I guess. They will walk off a cliff for Greene and Trump but unfortunately take all of us with them.

He keeps them in a frenzy over the most ridiculous stuff. He enrages them and the effect is like a blood lust. I've witnessed this for more than a decade in these people. It just gets worse not better. It's chilling to watch this, I have close neighbors like this. We live in a Red Sea here.

Victoria Hanks's avatar

Yes, you are right, great way to describe it, blood lust. It's feral. Provocative issues that get thrown around to get people worked up and they don't realize they are being manipulated. No critical thinking-like why is this issue being raised? Belief in mainstream media is a very hard habit to break for most people. Their propaganda is embedded in even the editorials. I too live in a red sea - I see no hope in those that believe the Trump hype. You can't reason with them.

kdsherpa's avatar

Now THAT'S an excellent point! God willing, only paid people would cheer at torture.

My heart goes out to the "sane" people of the US....those who would never have voted for these imbeciles.....

Their country is disappearing right in front of them and turning into something unrecognizable.

Totally obscene, but expect no less from MTG, the worst of them all in congress. Calling her trash is an insult to trash. The fact that she takes great delight in exerting power over her own constituents by having them tased by the police and mocking them; the folks who have the audacity to question her lies and BS; she is a Nazi through and through and one of the cruelist people. Shame to the folks who were cheering, for soon enough they will be crying in their soup when budget cuts hit them hard. Then what will they do? Ask her for help? They have a better chance of seeing the Lord.

An animal wouldn't act the way she does. She is a disgrace to our country, our Congress, and our human race.

I am wondering when this whole thing explodes.Lots of protests nationally lots of anger. I feel like it's never going to hit the boiling point tho. This is death by a 1000 cuts .

Each day is glaring reminder of how out of his element Donnie is.

America looks beaten and cowed .

The level of exhaustion is devastating I am sure.Thats how Dondons boys planned it .How can you rise up when you don't want to lose your job, your home....

I am beyond sad for America.

Don’t be so glad for us until our election is over. If little pee pee wins, we are in the exact same position as you! Carney is our only hope of survival of this entire mess!

A non-violent protester’s phone being crushed under the boot of police … a darkly perfect example of the fascism that is upon our southern neighbour.

#Resist 🇺🇸 and prepare to #Resist further 🇨🇦 — it is our time, and we must not let the job of purging fascism go unfinished.

It’s really NOT okay to copy other people’s content, with pseudo attribution (you could at least spell Blundell properly).

It violates ethics & Substack’s rules.

Just restack it.

Fix this or be reported. First and final warning.

kdsherpa's avatar

I've never done this before, but I thought that your comment was so profound that it deserved to be read along with this terrifying column. (What does "pseudoattribution" mean?) Thanks for correction on Dean's last name. I will remove your comment immediately.

Digital Canary 💪💪🇨🇦🇺🇦🗽's avatar

This is not about my comment.

It’s about your unethical & Substack policy-violating account.

Your timeline is only, AFAICT, stealing other people’s posted comment and reposting it as your own, while limiting that attribution to them in your subtitles (misspelled in the case), and never linking to the original.

Don’t steal: it’s *unethical*. Didn’t your proximity to Buddhism teach you anything about ethics?

Apologize publicly & conprehensively — it could be your first post of your own, ironically — tag in every single one of the creators whose content you’ve stolen, and maybe Substack will let you keep your account.

I’ve reported you, btw, so the clock is ticking.

kdsherpa's avatar

I AM NOT POSTING IT AS MY OWN!!! Look at the post. It clearly says in the subtitle WHO the author is, what the source is (if the substack has a name), and the date it was posted.

Digital Canary 💪💪🇨🇦🇺🇦🗽's avatar

Take a moment to really listen to what I’ve said, kdsherpa, instead of listening to your internal outrage.

You would be thrown out of any academic or journalism setting for plagiarism, regardless of the weak attempt at attribution you make.

This platform provides a simple way to do what you claim to want to do, while avoiding *completely* the ethical quagmire within which you’ve chosen to further entrench yourself.

Save *yourself* time & effort by simply restacking the creators’ work.

Save yourself the ethical bind that your approach creates.

Save yourself from being called out for your ethical lapse & for your *continued* intransigence.

Save your *account*, so that you can continue to fulfil your laudable goal of sharing good & important news more broadly.

Our country needs every voice, but the ends don’t justify your unethical means.

Every minute you waste denying & protesting your unethical behaviour is a minute lost of opportunity to start making clear & complete amends, and a minute closer to Substack getting to my report & simply turfing you.

Make these minutes count:

- a short post ASAP e.g. “I’ve been doing this wrong & I’m unreservedly sorry. I’ll be fixing my errors and directly apologizing to the original content creators ASAP.”

- then start working through your long history of posts of this kind — I’d suggest LIFO (last in, first out) — replacing them with restacks & including a direct “my sincere apologies, Creator X” with each of them.

That’s what taking accountability would look like.

And it might even save your account here.

Good luck, and you’re welcome.

Ethically defensible Elbows 🇨🇦 Up!

I think I may have misunderstood what you wrote. Are you saying that I didn't attribute the column written by Dean Blundell to him?? Yes, I most certainly did! When I read the most critically important pieces of information about what's happening here in the U.S., I take extra time (a LOT of extra time) to actually copy and paste the column, and then highlight the parts that I think are the most important. People often skip over things when I simply post columns. I am putting in significant effort to insure that people -- including people who merely skim -- see what needs to be seen. I care about trying to save our country from a complete fall into fascism. I couldn't care less about getting "credit" for writing something that I DIDN'T write myself. I am working extremely hard to do everything in my power as a handicapped woman in my 70's to save my country. I spend around 3 hours every day reading multiple newspapers from different countries, and studying the writings of the best 15 substacks that I have found. If you report me, you will have done something very wrong.

Digital Canary 💪💪🇨🇦🇺🇦🗽's avatar

Nice DARVO, kdsherpa.

Just restack their posts, and say a few words of your own if you wish — what you’re doing now is profoundly unethical.

She gleefully tells the the man to “have a nice time out there”, as he is dragged out & tasered. Intentional cruelty, a hallmark of evil. My heart was pounding seeing this done to him, so over the top & violent. Even knowing cameras were present, MTG & the security couldn’t care less. They feel so entitled to their cruelty & power. Apparently everyone but them is brainwashed by fake news.

LindyLoo's avatar

She is the epic evil!😈

Ninah's avatar

A couple of things to remember.

First, “All questions in writing first” equals questions already written out - including their responses! So this was planned.

Secondly, the size of the crowd was minute compared to what a normal town hall is.

Third, there were too many police there for such a small Town Hall. I bet no one recorded how many people were turned away?

So my take, this was staged! Though the protesters they chose had no idea what was in store for them.

The black policemen, however, will have a hard time living this down in their community.

Chris Fehr's avatar

Imagine becoming a police officer and going home to tell your family what you did at work today. Does the job attract these types or does it make sane people unsane?

This is disgusting republican propaganda and one of the head witches!
