Canada DGAF About Trump Ending Trade Talks, But Here Are The REAL Reason's He Did
While Trump throws tantrums for his tech billionaire donors, Carney sends the Ambassador and moves on to lead the free world. Welcome to Canadian sovereignty.
On June 30, Canada officially begins collecting its long-awaited Digital Services Tax (DST) from tech giants operating in the country, including those without a physical presence.
It’s a modest 3% levy on the gross revenues tech firms like Google, Amazon, Meta, Netflix, and Uber earn from Canadian users. It applies to services such as digital advertising, marketplaces, subscriptions, and, most notably, the sale or licensing of user data.
But the real kicker? It’s retroactive. Canada is billing these digital monopolies back to January 1, 2022, making the first collection due this week a hefty US$2 billion.
The Canadian public largely supports this. Why? Because U.S. tech giants have been fleecing Canadian users tax-free for years. Until very recently, they paid virtually no taxes in Canada while dominating our ad markets, selling our data, and undercutting local businesses.
Trump’s Tantrum: Threats, Lies, and Gaslighting
So what does Donald Trump do in response to this tiny, long-overdue tax? He cuts off all trade talks with Canada and threatens punitive tariffs. In a Truth Social tirade, he calls Canada "foolish," says we copied Europe (we did, proudly), and warns that "we have all the cards."
His dementia explanation in the Oval Office was Incredible:
“We have all the cards!” LOLOLOLOLOL.
Is that why we’re so hard to deal with? Seems to me Trump’s dotard tantrum over Canada had more to do with CANADA holding all the cards. Call me CRAZY.
But this isn’t about fairness. It’s not even about economics. It’s about Trump doing the bidding of U.S. tech billionaires who funded his return to power. It’s about Canadians boycotting American tourism to the point of bankruptcy. It’s about Canada moving forward with trade and security agreements with the EU, the UK, and Australia, abandoning any dependency on Trump’s MAGAmerica. It’s about Canada not buying US military hardware.

It’s about Canada holding all the cards BECAUSE WE MOVED ON and Trump is holding a catheter in one hand and a limp fake gun in the other.
Fact Check Time:
Canada NEVER taxed U.S. farmers 400%
Trump keeps ranting about a 400% tax on U.S. farmers. It’s a lie. Canada has supply management quotas, not blanket tariffs. American dairy exports within quota enter tariff-free, and these quotas were even expanded under Trump’s own USMCA deal.
Canada’s Prime Minister Continues to Ignore Trump While Trump Continues To Destroy Pierre Poilievre.
Donald Trump’s recent interview with Laura Ingraham has reignited tensions between the U.S. and Canada, as the U.S. President launched into a four-minute tirade suggesting Canada should become the 51st state. This statement, coupled with dubious claims about tariffs, fentanyl, and trade deficits, has drawn sharp criticism from Canadian leaders, includin…
Canada didn’t “just charge” US tech companies, and Trump didn’t just “find out about it.”
DST became law 3 years ago, and US officials were VERY aware of it.
So why lie? Because Trump needs a distraction from the fact that Canadian policy threatens the billionaire broligarchy bankrolling his presidency and Canada is kicking his ass.
First, he said it was about fentanyl and the border. Then it was about supply management. Then, the automotive and manufacturing industry. Then lumber. Then banks. Then steel and aluminum. Now it’s our tax system. All excuses to try to big dick Canada on TV. All easily disprovable excuses. Trump lost to Canada. And this is his attempt to claw back respect while fluffing the quid pro quo for his donors.
Follow the Money: Big Tech’s Untaxed Empire in Canada
Over the past decade, U.S. tech giants have earned an estimated US$243 to $336 billion from Canadian users. Here’s the breakdown:
Google: ~$50–70B from Canadian ad revenue and apps
Meta: ~$20–30B from Facebook & Instagram ads
Amazon: ~$150–200B from retail, AWS, and ads
Netflix: ~$13–15B from subscribers
Disney+: ~$10–20B from streaming and merchandising
X/Twitter: ~$0.5–1B from advertising
And until very recently? Most of it was tax-free.
How? They booked Canadian revenue through Ireland, the Cayman Islands, or Delaware. They paid little to nothing to Canada’s treasury while gutting our media and content industries.
That 3%? A drop in the bucket.
Now, Canada’s DST wants just 3% of that revenue. For comparison, the average small Canadian business pays 15%+ in corporate income taxes, plus sales taxes, payroll taxes, and fees. Tech giants paid less than your local bakery.
Who's Really Mad? The Donors
Trump's fury over Canada's 3% tax isn't about principle. It's about payback:
Elon Musk gave Trump $243 million in 2024, making him the single largest campaign donor
Amazon, Meta, Google, and Disney donated over $19 million collectively to Trump’s 2025 inauguration fund
These companies — and their billionaire execs — all face retroactive DST bills from Canada. And now they’re leaning on their investment. Trump is delivering.
Carney’s Response: Cool, Calm, Canadian
Mark Carney didn't flinch. His office issued a polite, 26-word statement: "Canada will continue to engage in complex negotiations in the best interests of Canadian workers and businesses."
Translation? We're not backing down.
It’s no coincidence that Carney put out this video today:
Canadian officials reportedly smirked behind the scenes, dubbing Trump "TACO Trump": Threaten And Chicken Out. Why? Because they’ve seen this movie before.
In 2018, Trump threatened to tank NAFTA. Then he blinked. In 2020, he imposed aluminum tariffs. Then he backtracked. Carney knows how this ends.
But this time, Canada is barely even reacting. One senior government contact put it bluntly: "We quite literally don’t give a shit. It’s TACO Trump we’re talking about here. All show, no go. And we’ve moved on from those threats with reliable partners, so in effect, anything Trump threatens is laughable. We’re too busy leading the free world, and he’s too busy playing dictator dress up in his imaginary fiefdom."
And that’s not just rhetoric. Carney has appointed Canada’s Ambassador to the United States, Kirsten Hillman, to handle all Trump Regime interactions, freeing up his cabinet to focus on deeper integration with European and Indo-Pacific allies. As Canada accelerates new trade, security, and defense partnerships with democracies around the globe, Trump’s tantrums grow more desperate and disconnected.
That’s one more reason the Trump Regime is so furious. While Trump was demanding loyalty and fealty, Carney got busy controlling Canada’s destiny instead of tying it to the whims of the fascist authoritarian village idiot in Washington.
Canada’s Standing Its Ground—And You Should Be Proud
This isn’t about dairy. It’s not about fentanyl. It’s not about 400% taxes or national security. It’s about Canada saying: enough.
If you profit from Canadian users, you pay Canadian taxes. Period. And if you don’t pay those taxes, then you can’t do business in Canada. Isn’t that what Trump is trying to accomplish in America? Taxing people who do business in the US?
This is what sovereignty looks like. This is what fairness looks like. This is what leadership looks like.
We’re not afraid of Trump. He’s a moron and Carney’s government knows that more than we do.
We’re not afraid of Big Tech. We’re not scared of TACO Trump’s dementia tweets. We’re Canadian.
We’ve moved on.
Love it. Go Canada. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
So glad to have Cool Carney in charge. Elbows up 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
