General comments:

1. Access to adequate, high quality food, produced at home is a matter of National Security for Canada v. aluminum/steel for US.

2. Consider Iran’s mass ongoing deportation of migrants in comparison to Trump’s efforts

A majority of the undocumented immigrants ICE has arrested during the current Trump administration did NOT have a criminal conviction. ONLY 40 percent did have a conviction, while another 32 percent had pending charges. Details on those charges and convictions were not available, so we don't know is its charges from ICE or other deviant Trump cruelty charges.

Over 60 percent of the undocumented immigrants removed from the country did NOT have a criminal conviction. 40 percent did have a conviction, many of their crimes involved nonviolent offenses.

MEXICAN immigrants, accounted for the most arrests.

MAGA Republicans who are cruel, in congress, are now working for TRUMP to approve $170 billion more in spending on immigration enforcement and border security that could result in a dramatic increase in the number of arrests which low- and middle-income Americans will pay for it, so all the billionaires can have TAX CUTS!

The budget bill is the top of the news feed this week, when we should be celebrating that nostalgic kick of a quintessential American summer, the 4th of July. So much ink is being spilled over the cuts to Medicaid (devastating), the wild spike in the debt it will cause (astronomical), and the fact that it forces poor people to give their money to rich people (not surprising, but awful).

Not enough is being said, though, about the reported $175 billion going to border control and enforcement. In other words, ICE & Co. It is an entire remaking of a militarized force aimed at people within our own borders. For context, we will be spending more on this than Russia spent last year on its MILITARY. You know, the one that is currently fighting a war with Ukraine?

The answers to these questions should send chills down your spine, because immigration isn’t a $175-billion-problem. And actually, deporting millions of immigrants isn’t a solution or even a realistic goal. These people are smart enough to know that draining our workforce of a significant portion of workers will deflate the economy (to put it mildly), and rend our society, essentially, broken.

Steve is always so incisive. Those of us who study Russia and WWII are painfully aware of the Gestapo and all the mass killing tactics used by the Nazis. The U.S. is taking the very same steps. This is absolutely terrifying. Anyone Trump and MAGA dislike may well be interred, disappeared or later just killed. Certainly things Trump has already done, like CECOT deportations, were never designed to help an inmate’s life expectancy. Death doesn’t worry Trump. It is the same lack of feeling for others that allows him to remove people’s health care. As Steve points out, the cost of caring for people becomes a transfer. Better to let the kid with the broken leg get seen immediately with insurance than wait for the leg to develop into something much worse and ultimately far more costly. This bill is so far beyond a fiasco.

No happy 4th of July for anyone with a brain this year. Democracy has been replaced by a police state.

I voted NO on the Republicans' Cruel Bill.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett

Jul 3/25

Let’s be clear: Republicans didn’t pass this bill for the people. They passed it to please Trump, protect the powerful, and push cruelty disguised as policy. I’m not here for that. I stand with the people of Texas 30—and I’m going to keep fighting back against the Republicans’ attacks on the American people every step of the way. HavaHappy4th love Jasmine
