First off, Happy Birthday, Canada. Second, DO NOT back away from this issue of holding Canadians in ICE concentration camps. Third, continue the "Travel Warning"; the current administration cannot be trusted! Keep kicking trump in the nuts!

(Lower case letters intentional, trump is a small man.)

Ditto on Happy Birthday Canada! All travelers to the US should be warned that the US is hazardous, and enter at your own risk. Not just ICE, but health care is suspect, air, water and food protections are gone, disaster relief is gone, terrorism is being handled by a 24-year-old with no experience with it, and gun crime is high as a kite. The US is in place 132 in safety, whereas Canada is at place 14. Unless you want a high risk, wild west like adventure, traveling elsewhere is safer.

Carney would rather take a transparent loss to "elbow-up" gain a win in the long run, he's knows money intelligence from being in International trade and as British finance minister, and with knowledge of Trump's weakness as giving him a feeling of a mulligan(in informal golf) an extra stroke allowed after a poor shot, not counted on the scorecard, and signs of severe flaws of character and/or personality.

Canada rescinds digital services tax after Trump suspends trade talks

Ottawa said Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Donald Trump had agreed to resume negotiations on a trade agreement and would aim to reach a deal by July 21.

Canada gave a mulligan to Trump to scrap the tax in a bid to salvage the trade negotiations, the Canadian government said it would soon introduce legislation in Parliament to cancel the tax.

"Prime Minister Carney and President Trump have agreed that parties will resume negotiations with a view towards agreeing on a deal by July 21, 2025," wrote the federal government.

"Canada's merchandise trade deficit with the world widened from $2.3 billion in March to $7.1 billion in April. This was the largest deficit on record," Statistics Canada says.

We are the safest, free, peace full country in the world! Proud and free, is our anthem, and we love everyone We are Canadian's eh!

"crimes against humanity," huh?

does anyone at all think djt will or could even be held a teeny bit responsible for any of this?

even if (should the world end prior) there might be a judgement in favor of the people affected, you know that somehow he will manage to get it declared null. void and that he had nothing at all to do with any of it.

and his adoring fans will cheer him on!

i'm watching interviews with farmers from iowa and nebraska, both totally red states last election. nebraska- no one to milk their cows- whine snivel

iowa- no one to buy their soy beans- whine snivel- silos are full- whine snivel-china is buying from south america instead- whine snivel

saw a maga whining and crying about how she just can't afford her bills b-cuz she didn't realize what her choice would cost her- whine-snivel

and not sure but i bet it will happen if it has not already started- magas are setting up go fund me pages to help pay for their 7 stairstep kids, the big ol' chevy pu truck and whatever else they owe on.

no help from other magas cuz they will all be in the same leaking boat!

(bail faster, elmer!!!)

good possibility many farmers stand to lose their as they said "300 year old farms!" (interesting since that would mean they were farming in 1725!) i,q. check please

anyway - turns out that are cute little v.p.vance has formed a real estate company which will allow him- and/or his investors- to either buy and sell thousands of prime agricultural land to their russian buddies OR- they can develop desirable nice fully gated country properties with 24 hour full time security guards making sure the residents therein will be well protected and taken care of.

dining halls will have hugely large red banners of a strong, masculine fist raised high in the air and all the happy residents will be treated to wearing bright red armbands with a nice picture of a great man on them. to remind them of how fortunate they are to have such a nice, safe and secure place to live (for a while,at least)

guess i have done enough for the day.

for you canadians, you are a terrific bright spot in all of this- go go go

for us in america- keep fighting and stay positive

and for everyone everywhere- keep reading dean's stuff !!!!!! every day!!!

still in denver

still flying the canadian flag every day to piss off my maga neighbor!!

p.s happry canada day tomorrow!!

2 comments….the USA isn’t “becoming” an authoritarian regime, it ALREADY IS ONE.

And Today the Canadian government caved to the demands of the USA to scrap the digital service tax, because it interfered in them getting a trade agreement with them. Starting to look like trade deals with the MONSTER south of us is more important than Human rights and the rights of Canadians.

We are definitely no longer "veering toward authoritarianism", we are firmly there. We are counting on Canada and other nations to economically punish the regime as we no longer have a functioning government with respect for rule of law. I will suffer the impacts, but the sooner the economic collapse, the sooner the way out of our national trauma will clear.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s effort to ban Pride backfired, drawing a huge throng in support of LGBTQ+ rights and hurting him and his party ahead of elections next year.

But never had the parade been shadowed by such uncertainty and fear. Hungary’s authoritarian-minded prime minister, Viktor Orban, had banned Pride for the first time in its 30-year history, taking a page from the strongman playbooks of anti-LGBTQ+ campaigns in Russia, Poland and the United States.

By day’s end, he and the makers of Pride were engulfed in a wave of public support so massive that some commentators are already calling it a political turning point, potentially weakening Orban and his self-proclaimed “illiberal” Christian authoritarianism.

Do We Even Understand the Importance of this Moment?

The worst bill in modern history

“The earth turns... But we don't feel it move. Then one night you look up. One spark, and the sky is on fire." -Gangs of New York. This is a harbinger of a massive conflict to come. Life is What Happens While the Right Is Destroying American Democracy. Democrats must make it a career-ender for Republicans. Elections have consequences, and the passage of a bill as damaging as this following Democrats’ 2024 defeat should remind every Democratic, independent, and disgusted Republican voter that the only way to halt and reverse the assault on America is to start defeating MAGA’s assault on average Americans.

Some of the decisions were hard for the average person to understand. The decision in the “birthright citizenship” case. It did not even address birthright citizenship. It made it harder for lower courts to issue nationwide injunctions. This, will make it easier for Trump.

Those most negatively impact the poor. Trump's draconian and racist anti-immigration measures. Earlier, the court had ruled that while the case against renditioning migrants without due process makes its way through the courts, Trump could go right on doing it. They have the effect of allowing the president to violate any law he wishes like the immunity decision, this increases the power of the president to do as he sees fit for periods of time in which he could do great damage.

Another decision, citizens could sue to preserve certain forms of essential healthcare coverage under U.S. civil rights law. U.S. civil rights law making all of us more vulnerable.

It’s the Roberts Court, the immunity decision through this, granted unprecedented power to the executive, undermined our freedoms, made this country less of a democracy, more and more inequitable to those who are not at the very top of our society.

Democracy in America is dying the death of a thousand cuts. Which is good news for the would-be authoritarians in our midst. Life is What Happens When Demography Redefines Who Is in Power.

The NY mayoral primary and the success of Zohran Mamdani, the 33-year-old Democratic nominee to be the next chief executive of the country’s biggest (and best) city.

The earth is turning and though we may not feel it move, one chapter is ending in U.S. political history and another is beginning.

That’s why it is so refreshing to hear Mamdani unflinchingly why he is a democratic socialist—because he seeks a more equitable society. When asked about billionaires, he says he doesn’t believe we should have billionaires.

One final point: Mamdani also has spoken very clear that the rich and powerful want their gravy train to run on endlessly at the expense of all the rest of us. They view someone who can speak the truth as a special threat.

Not to take away from the horror of locking up Canadians and now letting them die in detention, they are also locking up US citizens. It’s all illegal and we all need to push back hard.

We know from immigrants released from ICE custody that conditions are horrible in all these detention centers. Sleeping on concrete floors, little food and water, little to no medical care. It’s the reason ICE and DHS keeps changing the rules so US Congress people can’t gain access to these hell holes and report on the conditions. All of the detention centers,as far as I’m aware, are run by private prison companies and they are being paid a bundle with government contracts. Trump and his evil border security crew clearly made no real plans on how to properly house the thousands being kidnapped off the streets of America. Of course overcrowding and deplorable conditions are going to be the norm. Sadly, the Canadian citizen was probably arrested the minute he stepped out of prison and then shipped off to one of these awful detention centers where he received no help. I hope the Canadian government can rescue their other citizens in custody. This is not a safe country anymore so a very stern warning from all countries warning their citizens to not come to America is very much warranted.

Speaking for the American resistance, we need countries that still have democracies to bring the hammer down on us as fast and hard as is politically possible. Free peoples know no borders, be they in Africa, Asia, Europe, or the Americas. A loss of any democracy is a loss to all.

Please avoid spending money that benefits Trump's America. And certainly avoid traveling here this year, we can't consider visiting Canada in 2025 either since we could be abducted and rendered to an overseas hellhole on return. Make red state tourism, especially Florida, feel the pain. Keep it up at least until our midterm elections in Nov 2026.

Sorry, I had to ask for 75 million American voters.
