So interesting. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Hey if Elmo helps us little people out, for whatever narcissistic reason, I guess I'll take it. These are like two toddlers who are fighting over their toys - except the "toys" are millions of people's lives. We are watching history being made - the demise of USA as it is in the hands of mentally ill men having tantrums. Although, we talk a lot about these 2 morons, this descent into madness and kleptocracy started a good 50 years ago. We just didn't notice or think it would get this bad.

Maybe Elmo will actually create something himself β€” ironically, something that would also destroy him in the process, as a Mamdani-rejuvenated Democratic Party will eat a split MAGA GOP for lunch, with oligarch including Musk as the dessert course.

Don’t be so sure about that. The Democratic Party barely knows itself when it looks in the mirror anymore. The truth is that there is no value in being associated with either the Democrats or Republicans. One is destroying America with drama and substandard performance. One is destroying America with inertia and non-stop hand wringing. FElon Musk deserves to lose it all. But I am willing to stipulate that he needs a detox and psychotherapy. If he gets both, he just might be a useful human being after all.

Hence a β€œMamdani-rejuvenated” Dem party.

Not Clinton’s, nor even Obama or Biden’s, but an *actually* progressive party which maybe even believes that women have as many rights as men.

And Elon would need to lose his fortune (virtually all of it, anyway, no more than a couple million to himself), learn a deep lesson in humility, and make amends to ALL those he’s hurt before he’ll find peace or forgiveness.

I agree with the Dig... If a fraud and con- man can harness the angst of the working class, think what the charismatic leader of a sincere progressive party could do given a bit of support. The progressive voices are down there, they just need the support. The Democrattic party could rehabilitate itself with a promise to get big money out of politics. That would be the sincerity test.

Sure. But the rejuvenated party you’re talking about is only located in NYC. If a Mamdani-style candidate could be competitive in, say, Ohio or, maybe, Missouri, then I can buy the rejuvenation factor.

I agree with most of what you are saying. But we have seen darlings of the progressive left fail miserably recently (i.e. John Fetterman). I don’t think it’s required for outright austerity or for specific policy performance to govern effectively. How about just being human and doing the right thing, not to mention sending the message to all and not just to urban enclaves?

Yeah that’s been really working lately, Dave.

The establishment Dems also serve themselves and their donors, with minimal service beyond kind words for the vulnerable to distinguish themselves from the GOP.

Keep beating that dead horse & keep ignoring the rights of female persons, and you’ll hand another round of elections to Trump β€” assuming you have another set of elections.

We are quite sure that Musk IS already a useful human being, but not in the way psychologically healthy individuals would recognize. It would take a TRUE MIRACLE for Fusk to zero his ego and make his way forward in an attitude of self-abnegation and humilty. It may happen, but to quote Doonesbury, β€œJesus is coming too, honey, but ah ain’t waitin’ up nights!"

I’m not holding my breath waiting for it to happen either. He will most likely be a victim of his own hubris before he admits anything resembling weakness. And I wish him luck that he gets any traction on a third party. The only way any third party movement will ever succeed is if all states have access to ranked choice voting. And that ain’t coming anytime soon at the pace the movement is working.

Ranked Choice Voting is a disaster. I lived in Oakland California when Ranked Choice took the Mayor's Office away from the candidate who got the most first choice votes, Don Perota (a progressive liberal) and handed it to the spectacularly incompetent Jean Quan.

Quan immediately alienated the police and fire departments along with causing open rebellion within the Department of Public Works. Massive piles of trash were not picked up all over the City for months.

Quan managed to win back the support of the rottenest apples in the Oakland PD when he turned them loose in riot gear to beat up the peaceful Occupy protesters throughout Oakland.

She did get a great photo op though when national media carried photos and video of Oakland PD Officers pepper spraying peaceful protesters who were literally sitting on the ground on the lawn in front of City Hall.

If that's what Ranked Choice Voting does, no fucking thank you.

It sounds like something like that never should have happened with ranked choice??!! Was there some kind of shenanigans that happened?

Let's call it what it is. A BIG CRUEL BILL. It's beyond words depressing to contemplate whether or not, HUMANITY will win day the day, or will it be CRUELTY? But that's where we're at here in America. And it makes me sick to my stomach. Every day. All day long.

I truly wish everyone would use Anat’s name for it; MAGA Murder Bill. I’m sick to my stomach over everything that is happening now, this murder bill, the concentration camps, especially Alligator Auschwitz & the people laughing about it, all of the innocent men remaining in Bukele’s torture chamber, the complete betrayal of Ukraine. I just do a lot of silent screaming every day

There is no way in hell that TRUMP wrote that Truth Social post from 9:44 last night re what Elon Musk knew blah blah! As we all know he has the vocabulary of a child and is incapable of writing a coherent sentence let alone incorporating β€˜bigger words’. Is he even capable of doing anything on his own except continuing to lie to the American people, cheat and abuse everything around him? He is one despicable excuse of a human being. Actually just a β€˜being’ as there is nothing human about him.

Make no mistake. Musk is not doing this because of feelings of being a Progressive nor from the Due Process and other Constitutional rights of people in the U.S. (including illegals who do have rights) nor from concern about people losing Medicaid or food assistance. Musk is a supporter of renewable energy sources; he says it’s the future while fossil fuels are the past. He also is against TACO’s lies about how much the BBB will increase the federal debt.
