The Pope, Robert Prevost, chose the name Leo XIV after being elected as the new pope on May 8, 2025. This choice is significant for a few reasons. First, the name "Leo" is a traditional papal name, signifying strength and courage, as it's Latin for "lion". Second, it is a direct reference to Pope Leo XIII, the last pope to bear the name, and who is considered the father of Catholic social teaching. This choice suggests the new Pope may prioritize justice, labor, and the church's role in the modern world. Finally, the name Leo is the fourth most used papal name, following John, Benedict, and Gregory, indicating a rich history associated with the name.

How are his words denigrating the Pope? They sound like praise for the Cardinal who chose his papal name.

I absolutely love your Fivestack truly insightful podcasts! Most days, I cannot watch the live stream because of my schedule, but I make it a point to stay up as late as necessary to watch, listen, and learn from both of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your sincerity, your commitment to truth and integrity in journalism, and, of course, your energy and uproarious humor. No matter how stressful my day has been or how bad things seem in my country (the US), I know I can always end the day with a laugh.

Dean- Please don't denigrate the Pope-- making fun of the name Leo. It makes you sound like Trump. I just made a paid subscription and this made me wonder of I did the right thing.
