Trump, Putin, Poilievre, and the Arctic Endgame: Why Canada is the Last Line of Defense
Poilievre will give Canada to Trump/Putin if he wins...
April 2, 2025
While the world watches the bloody stalemate in Ukraine drag on, Vladimir Putin is shifting his gaze North — to the melting, militarized expanse of the Arctic. And if you're wondering what this has to do with Canada, Pierre Poilievre, and Donald Trump's second term as U.S. President, the answer is simple:
We are living through the launch of an authoritarian, multipolar plan to carve up the world — and Canada is standing in the way.
At the International Arctic Forum last week in Murmansk, Putin made a slick pivot. With his war against Ukraine stalling and Europe refusing to blink, Putin changed the subject: the Arctic is now Russia's top strategic prize. And he's not shy about it.
Forget cooperation — Russia is out of every Arctic treaty table. Instead, Putin is rolling out nuclear submarines, hypersonic missile platforms, and a pitch to Trump for a "serious" reconfiguration of sovereignty in the Far North.
That includes — and this is no joke — supporting Trump's fantasy of annexing Greenland. Putin publicly said he has "no objection." The man isn't joking. He's drawing maps and cutting up the Arctic like it's Game of Thrones — and Trump, in office again, is in on the plan.
The Multipolar Axis: Trump, Putin, Xi
This is the big picture:
Trump is back in office and withdrawing U.S. global commitments.
Putin is pushing west and north, trying to fracture NATO and lock down the Arctic.
Xi Jinping is watching the chaos and carving up economic influence in the Indo-Pacific. His eyes are on Taiwan, Thailand, and beyond.
They share one goal: Replace the Western-led, democratic order with a new authoritarian, multipolar world. One where empires rise again, borders are fluid, and power is divided by brute force.
This isn’t a theory — it’s a project in motion. It’s happening through missiles in Ukraine, submarines in the Arctic, and trade routes in the South China Sea. And the weak point in the democratic alliance? It’s not France. It’s not Germany. It’s Canada.
The only thing that stands between Trump/Putin/XI’s dream of carving up Canada and Greenland? Canadian PM Mark Carney winning Canada’s General election. His first order of business after winning the Liberal Leadership race was a trip to the Arctic and the announcement of the Canadian energy corridor and rebuilding Arctic ports in Hudson’s Bay and other derelict ports of call, along with the rebuilding of Canada’s military and the purchase of dozens of armed icebreakers.
Why the Arctic Matters
The Northern Sea Route — which runs along Russia's Arctic coast — is melting. That means it's opening up. It could cut shipping times between Europe and Asia by 40%, becoming the next global trade artery. And it sits on untapped oil, gas, rare earth minerals, and military chokepoints.
Control it, and you control trade, resources, and geopolitical leverage over Europe, Canada, and the U.S.
Russia already has 40+ Arctic military installations, a hypersonic-armed submarine fleet, and new bases near Norway and Svalbard. But its infrastructure is crumbling under sanctions and war costs — so it's turning to strategic deception:
Offer "cooperation" to Trump while securing control over Arctic assets — and undermining NATO unity from the inside.
Putin doesn’t need peace. He needs just enough chaos to convince Trump, and maybe Poilievre, that a new world order is more profitable than preserving old alliances.
Enter Pierre Poilievre: MAGA North Edition
Here in Canada, the stakes are just as high. Pierre Poilievre is positioning himself as the northern avatar of MAGA politics — and it’s no coincidence his talking points mirror Trump and Fox News more than Canadian tradition.
He’s mocked Canada’s Arctic defense strategy, joking that we’re “protecting Canadians from Santa Claus.”
He’s spread anti-Ukraine disinformation, refused to condemn Putin’s war crimes, and aligned himself with the same disinformation networks used by foreign actors to weaken NATO democracies.
He pushes the 51st State fantasy — the idea that Canada would somehow be “freer” if we dropped our sovereignty and cozied up to the U.S. and its MAGA cult. That’s not just political cosplay. It’s national betrayal.
Let’s be clear:
Poilievre is not just a Conservative. He’s a MAGA-aligned asset.
He would help Trump and Putin divide Arctic sovereignty.
His rise would fracture Canada’s role in NATO and destroy our credibility in the North.
And with Trump back in power, Poilievre’s Canada would become a stepping stone to weakening the EU, fracturing Greenland's alignment with the West, and giving Russia a free pass in the Arctic.
Why This Election Is the Most Important in Canadian History
This isn’t just the most important Canadian election of our generation. It’s the most important election in the Western world right now.
Canada is the last functional democracy between Trump’s America and Putin’s Russia. If we fall to MAGA, the entire northern hemisphere could tilt into authoritarianism.
Europe is rearming. The Baltics are doubling defense spending. France and Germany are leading EU military cooperation. Sweden and Finland are NATO members. And Canada? We are the keystone. The bulkhead. The firewall.
If Poilievre wins:
Canada pulls back from NATO.
Arctic defense strategies collapse.
Our institutions become politicized in Trumpian fashion.
And our sovereignty — once guarded fiercely — becomes negotiable.
Poilievre will roll out the red carpet for Trump/Putin because he’s aligned with them.
We cannot overstate this: Canada’s sovereignty depends on Poilievre losing this election.
Not figuratively. Literally.
Because he would rather stand with Trump and Putin than stand up for Canadian independence. There are very specific reasons he is still refusing his NatSec background check and has flat out refused to criticize Putin and Trump.
He’s compromised and MAGA/RUSSIA aligned.
What’s at Stake? Everything.
The Arctic.
Our alliances.
Our ability to lead in climate, trade, and peacekeeping.
Our national security.
Our very identity as a sovereign, democratic nation.
Mark Carney, Chrystia Freeland, and other democratic leaders aren’t just running against Pierre Poilievre — they’re running against a multipolar, authoritarian plan to split the world in two.
This election is not about left or right, tax rates or regulation. It’s about survival—the survival of Democracy, Canada, and the freedom to be a sovereign nation that determines our own future.
A vote for Poilievre is a vote against our country, freedom and our way of life. A vote for Poilievre is a vote for Putin and Trump’s America.
Remember that on April 28.

I will be supporting Democracy in North America by attending a Hands Off/Hände Weg rally on Saturday in Berlin, Germany at 2 Pm CET in front of the US Embassy. In addition to the destruction of our government in the US, we are protesting Trump shutting down half the consulates in Germany, and the attempt to prevent us from voting from abroad.

There will be Hands Off rallies in countries around the world. Here are the ones posted on the Democrats Abroad website including one in Toronto. Please share this with friends in other countries.

Dean, Can you explain more about how you got wind of Hegseth talking about the US taking over North and Central America as a plan. I did not hear this leak discussed elsewhere. I am currently in Europe, and am trying hard to follow things in all of the continents but mostly North America and Europe. I am hoping that Carney wins and stays the course. It is unclear to me and probably most people what is going on with the US and Canada in terms of tariffs.
